THOMASVILLE – The Little Miss Thomasville queens presented $28,060 in funds and donated care items to Baptist Children’s Homes of North Carolina (BCH) at the annual pageant on Saturday, March 17 at T. Austin Finch Auditorium in Thomasville. The donations will help the boys and girls living at BCH’s Mills Home campus in Thomasville.

“The kindness these young ladies have shown our children is inspirational,” said BCH president Michael C. Blackwell who accepted the gifts. “Their support grows stronger every year, and it’s helping us to make a difference in the lives of the boy and girls in care at Mills Home.”

The following area businesses participated in the Little Miss Thomasville Queens’ efforts: About Face in High Point, Flowers by Neill in Thomasville, Fuji's in High Point, Hobby Lobby in Greensboro, KCDC dance in Denton, La Carretta in Thomasville, Long Horn in High Point, Mazatlan in Thomasville, Rituals in Thomasville, Safari Restaurant in Thomasville, and Thomasville Furniture/Vickie Holder.

The queens annually support Mills Home every year through a variety of fundraisers and projects. This year, queens collected a “Mile of Pennies,” a longtime BCH fundraiser, as part of their efforts. The goal is to collect enough pennies that the coins stretch out to a mile in length when laid edge to edge.

This year’s queens also organized an “I Feel Pretty” campaign specifically for girls living at Mills Homes. Hundreds of the community members donated shampoo, make-up, pocket books and other items. Nearly two dozen large storage containers filled with the items were donated.

“The generosity these young ladies show our children is humbling,” said BCH’s Thomasville Area Family Services director Lynn Garner. “They work hard to help Mills Home and the community.”

The Little Miss Thomasville Queens are chosen annually through a special pageant. The pageant is an official preliminary to the Little Miss North Carolina competition. The queens are involved in various community projects in addition to the support they raise for the children at Mills Home.

Since 1885, Baptist Children’s Homes of North Carolina has helped children and families. BCH began with one campus, Mills Home in Thomasville, but now provides services in communities across the state.
