Baptist Children’s Homes of North Carolina (BCH) recently received two $2,500 grants from Ronald McDonald House Charities. The funds will specifically help BCH’s Odum Home campus in Pembroke. A nonprofit organization, BCH provides residential care and services to children and families in crisis. Odum Home serves Robeson County and the surrounding communities.
Lumberton based Rust Enterprises, operated by Kenneth R. Rust whose company owns several McDonald’s restaurants in North Carolina, was instrumental in helping secure the grant. The corporation is a financial supporter of BCH and has employed Odum Home residents at its McDonald’s restaurant in Pembroke.
BCH’s original grant request was submitted to the regional Ronald McDonald House Charities located in Raleigh. After the North Carolina chapter approved the grant, the national organization in Oakbrook, Illinois matched the request giving the statewide childcare agency a total of $5,000. The funds will allow BCH to purchase recreation equipment and furniture for Odum Home.
“This is a tremendous act of generosity,” said BCH president Michael C. Blackwell. “We could not provide the essential care our boys and girls need without the help of friends like Ronald McDonald House Charities. We greatly appreciate their support.”
Since 1885, Baptist Children’s Homes of North Carolina has reached out to children and families in crisis. BCH began with one campus, Mills Home in Thomasville, but now provides services in communities across the state.
