Oak Ranch Brings Children’s Homes Residents
Together
July 15, 2007
Matthew from Baptist Children’s Homes of North Carolina’s (BCH) Cameron Boys Camp leads John, a developmentally disabled adult resident from Stegall Home in Marshville, on his first horseback ride at Oak Ranch near Broadway. The July 13 event at Oak Ranch provided a rare opportunity for eight campers and five adult Developmental Disabilities Ministry residents to learn more about one another while taking part in the ranch’s unique equine therapy program. BCH began managing the existing 755 acre ranch property on June 1 in agreement with Oak Ranch’s leadership. Plans are in place to accept boys into care at Oak Ranch beginning in October, but the property is already being utilized by BCH residents and staff members from the institution’s statewide locations.
Since 1885, Baptist Children’s Homes of North Carolina has helped children and families. BCH began with one campus, Mills Home in Thomasville, but now provides services in communities across the state.
