Westerm Area Annual Awards Banquet

03.18.2009

The Western Area held its annual "Awards Banquet" the evening of March 17. Everyone came in their Sunday dress and looked very dashing and pretty in their nice clothes. The event started off with a scripture from Western Area Family Services director Linda Morgan followed by a song from child care worker Adam Saunders. A child in care gave the prayer and the evening was off to a great start. The housemothers prepared a delicious meal that consisted of country fried steak, mashed potatoes, gravy, rolls, corn, beans and a salad. There was a huge cake to follow with St. Patrick's Day cookies. Linda Morgan, Carol Bagwell and Tim Dailey presented the achievement awards to each child living at Broyhill Home and Drake Cottage. This was comprised of achievements they had attained during the year. This included anything from church and youth groups, school honor rolls, talent show and olympic participation as well as many other achievements. Special awards were voted on by the children's peers and these consisted of awards such as "Best Dressed," "Best All Around," "Athletics" and "Wittiest." Then there were awards that the child care workers voted on such as Most "Improved in the Cottage," "Most Cooperative," "Work Program" and others. Door prizes were drawn at the end of the evening, and the event was closed with a prayer. A wonderful evening was had by everyone.
