Scotts Hill Baptist Church Renovates Odum
07.22.2010
The staff and residents at Odum Home can never thank the members of Scotts Hill Baptist Church enough for their commitment and their hard work at Odum Home. Church volunteer have helped with renovations in Indian Memorial Cottage, Latta Harnett Cottage and the gym. The work they have accomplished in Indian Memorial Cottage alone have already made such a huge difference in the cottage's appearance. Their work and expertise is top of the line, and we're thankful for the talent that God has blessed them with! Our many thanks to Ross who spearheaded this renovation and also to the many other hands that help in whatever way is needed.
Odum Children Enjoy Summer at the Beach
07.15.2010
June 25th-July 6th were the days that some memories were made by our kids and staff at Odum Home while spending time at McNeill Beach Cottage. The memories ranged from devotions before beach time, catching pin fish, building sand castles and even being being buried in the sand! The time spent there was safe, relaxing and enjoyable for everyone. We appreciate the legacy of the wonderful people that wanted to provide a place for these kinds of memories for the kids that come through the doors of BCH daily!
Our Daily Bread Makes A Difference at Odum
07.15.2010
A few weeks ago Odum Home was introduced to a wonderful group of folks from Winter Park Baptist Church in Wilmington, NC and we quickly knew why their sunday school class was called "Our Daily Bread!" One weekend the ladies of the church had a Tea Social and the girls from our campus were the focus of the tea. Looking their best, the girls and staff were treated like VIP's. The girls were introduced to all kinds of different tea and a wonderful meal. The class also took on the project of cleaning, painting, power washing and just an overall sprucing up of the vocational building and providing the materials. The vocational building is used for pottery making, woodwork crafts and building projects. This project has taken several visits and on their last visit the ladies left the guys working while they did crafts with the residents. The girls made beautiful beaded necklaces and footwear for the summer and the boys built model cars. On this past Saturday, Our Daily Bread met with children and staff in the library and were able to fellowship together. The kids did a couple of songs and were able to talk about their goals and the difference that BCH has made in their lives as well as their families. The class also presented the kids gift bags with bed linens, towels, crafts and personal hygiene products. I was so encouraged that day when I was able to spend time talking with Gloria! Gloria is the daughter of James and Gladys Latta who provided funds toward the building of Latta Harnett Cottage in honor of their son Jimmy. The family also helped with the library in the Lindsey Administration building. Gloria also shared about her days when she was a child care worker on Mills Home campus and the encouragement and advice that her parents gave her from what to cook to helping children problem solve! The greatest gift that we can give our kids is to teach them to give back and it will stay with them a lifetime! Thank you to Our Daily Break for all the help, fellowship, and wonderful memories!
