Campers Embark on South Carolina Adventure

01.29.2008

The Rangers group at camp returned last weekend from a successful two-week Lake Marion trip in South Carolina. The group spent two weeks camping out on an island where they built a debris shelter. They also caught a lot of catfish (the largest one that they caught was 21 pounds) and devised different ways to cook them. The group had a lot of fun doing polar bear swimming and exploring gator holes where they discovered baby alligators. At the end of the trip, the group canoed towards the Santee Cooper Pinopolis Dam/Lock where they were transported 75 feet below to Cooper River. The Rangers then drove to Charleston for their celebration dinner.

Two Camp Groups Went Backpacking Around Camp Property

01.29.2008

The Trailblazers and the Frontiersmen groups spent two nights on a backpack trip around the camp property in preparation for a bigger trip in the spring. Both groups learned backpack trip routines and tried to meet their needs in the midst of the frigid weather. They all had a lot of fun building their group up and playing some games along the way.
