Cameron Celebrated Easter

03.25.2008

The cold weather did not stop Camp from holding its annual Easter sunrise service. The groups, along with their lanterns and headlamps, converged at Lake Karl for the service. The Frontiersmen group led worship and Chief Daniel delivered the message. Later that afternoon, after a hearty lunch, camp held its Easter egg hunt. The campers boiled and colored several dozen eggs a few days before the event. Everyone had a lot of fun and shared a good spirit during the egg hunt.

Guest Author at Camp

03.13.2008

Robert Mitchell, author of the Castaway Kid, visited Camp last Monday. The author sent a few copies of his books to camp last year and were used for group reading. J.P., Camp's maintenance coordinator, invited the author to speak to the boys. The author spoke to the campers about his experience growing up in an orphanage and dealing with anger, forgiveness and hope. The campers responded really well to the speaker. He even offered to speak at the different BCH agencies. For more info, visit the website: www.castawaykid.com

Camp Trailblazers' Florida Excursion

03.11.2008

Cameron Boys Camp's Trailblazers group returned from their 26-day Florida river/backpack trip. The group spent 10 days canoeing about 80 miles on the Santa Fe/Suwannee Rivers. The group enjoyed the Santa Fe River's clear water and the springs along the way. They were then picked up and transferred to Ocala National Forest where they hiked the Florida Trail for 70 miles over 10 days. The group spent a couple of layover days swimming in the springs near the trail. The Trailblazers celebrated their accomplishment by spending a day at another spring and going out to dinner before driving back to camp.
