Wilderness Camping: Journal
Camp Trailblazers' Educational Bus Trip
05.22.2008
The Trailblazers spent ten days in Virginia and Washington D.C. exploring sites related to their Early American History session theme. The group visited Jamestown and Yorktown in Virginia before moving on to camp at a state park in Maryland. They visited the famous memorials in Washington, D.C. as well as the National Archives, the National Museum of Natural History and Arlington Cemetery. Campers learned a lot and grew together as a group as they tried to meet their needs during long periods of rain over a span of three days. The group had fun and even picked some strawberries along the way. They also received compliments from their tour guides as the Trailblazers group did a great job representing camp and BCH.
Rangers and Woodsmen Beach Cottage Trip
05.19.2008
The Woodsmen and Rangers each spent a week at the beach cottage at Indian Beach. Both groups had a lot of fun pier fishing, swimming, and exploring the area including visiting the Pine Knoll Shores Aquarium and Fort Macon State Park. The campers enjoyed fishing on the pier as they caught different kinds of fish such as bluefish, cobia, sharks and skates as well as crabs which they trapped in cages. Both groups set aside one meal when they cooked all the fish and crabs that they had caught.
Family Day at Cameron Camp
05.19.2008
Cameron Boys Camp held its annual Family Day last Sunday. Camp staff members and the boys had been busy preparing for the big event: setting up the teepee, tables and chairs; making their campsites spic and span; and churning ice cream. The boys' families joined camp for their chapel service where campers sang a few songs, the Frontiersmen group presented a skit, and Chief Paul gave a message on the importance of families. The families then joined their group for their planned activities such as making bird houses, fishing and playing kickball. It was great seeing families participate and watching grandparents, parents and younger brothers and sisters playing kickball or doing crafts. Everyone got together for lunch and a short program which consisted of some singing and sharing camp stories.
