Intellectual & Development Disabilities

We connect special needs adults with the compassionate homes they need. It is our goal to help them reach their highest level of independence while giving their families much-needed peace of mind.

SPECIAL FAMILIES FOR SPECIAL ADULTS: ALTERNATIVE FAMILY LIVING:

Through Baptist Children's Homes' (BCH) Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities Ministry (I/DDM), the goal is to help each man and woman to thrive through our Special Families for Special Adults: Alternative Family Living (AFL) program. The in-home program is where an individual or family opens up their home as a safe, stable living environment for an intellectually/developmentally disabled adult.

In many ways, AFL is comparable to foster care except it is designed for providing a supportive home to a special needs adult instead of a child. We are actively looking for individuals and families to be AFL in-home providers.

COTTAGE CARE FOR ADULTS:

We also operate nine cottages in six communities across North Carolina for intellectually/developmentally disabled adults. These family-style homes offer a safe living environment with a Christian atmosphere which includes opportunities for spiritual enrichment, preparation of nutritious meals, transportation, enhancement of daily and independent living and social skills. We promote and support maximum independence, individual growth, and inclusion in their community. See the downloadable resources below for more information.
