Homecomings at Mills Home (MH) in Thomasville and Kennedy Home (KH) in Kinston are longstanding traditions looked forward to by past residents and former staff members as well as current residents and staff members.
Produced by the respective alumni associations in conjunction with Baptist Children’s Homes (BCH), each Homecoming offers plenty of good food, opportunities for fun and fellowship, and a time to gather for worship.
Alumni associations use the events to conduct annual business meetings. Alumni graciously give back by sponsoring various types of projects benefiting the campuses and boys and girls in care.
Last year, KH Homecoming was moved from the usual July weekend dates to June 3, 4 and 5. The change was made to encourage attendance. Many attendees were having 4th of July celebration conflicts. Last year’s date change was positively received and this year’s event was held on June 2, 3 and 4.
Homecoming at Mills Home is held the first weekend in August.
“Homecomings are an important part of life at Baptist Children’s Homes,” BCH president/CEO Michael C. Blackwell said. “It is truly a family celebration.”
